The naval force of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard said on Wednesday that a container ship sank in the waters south of the Strait of Hormuz after colliding with a sea mine and a fire breaking out on board.

The Revolutionary Guard added, in a statement carried by state media, that the ship, which was carrying more than 2,500 containers, attempted to cross a path that the Revolutionary Guard described as unauthorized and dangerous.

At the same time, the statement urged Iranian ships and fishermen to exercise caution.
