Elon Musk, the billionaire ally of US President Donald Trump, threatened on Wednesday Democrats who are hinting at opening investigations into corruption allegations involving his role within the US government, if they regain control of Congress after next month's elections.
Commenting on a Politico report about Democratic plans to investigate his activities if they win the midterm elections, Musk wrote on his X platform: "He who lives by the sword, dies by the sword."
Musk added on the platform, which he regularly uses to promote conspiracy theories: "Those who choose to pick a fight with me should realize that I will expose who is really pulling the strings, and I will go after them, not just the puppets they use."
Musk, the first person in the US whose wealth has reached one trillion dollars, is a major funder of Trump's Republican Party. He also serves as a permanent advisor to the president and benefits from government contracts through his "SpaceX" empire.
Musk also controls the leading electric vehicle manufacturer, Tesla.
After helping fund Trump's return to power in the 2024 elections, Musk ran a controversial project aimed at cutting US government spending, which could lead to the layoffs of about 300,000 employees.
Republicans currently control both the Senate and the House of Representatives, but projections indicate that Democrats may regain control of the House on November 3.
This would grant Democrats control of investigative committees with broad powers, including the ability to compel people to testify, putting Musk directly in their crosshairs regarding these investigations.
