According to the website of the Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority, Petra is one of the most important archaeological sites in the world and one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.
Petra is located in southern Jordan and is known for its unique architecture, which is entirely carved into the pink sandstone mountains, earning it the nickname 'The Rose City'.
This prosperous city was founded by the Nabataeans, a powerful Arab people with a wide influence in the region from the 4th century BC to the 2nd century AD.
What distinguishes Petra from other archaeological sites is that its main buildings, including the royal tombs, the monumental facades, the temples, and the famous Treasury, are all carved directly into the sandstone mountains, reflecting amazing engineering prowess and a unique ability to tame nature and transform it into a complete city.
