Minister of Health: One critical case among Karak attack victims as death toll rises to 8

Minister of Health Firas Al-Hawari confirmed on Saturday that one critical case remains among the victims of the terrorist attack that targeted a church in the village of Hamoud in Karak Governorate on Friday, receiving treatment at Prince Ali Military Hospital, noting that their health condition remains unstable after suffering severe hemorrhaging and internal injuries that required surgery and blood transfusions, as the death toll from the attack rose to 8.

Al-Hawari explained, in an interview with "Al-Mamlaka," that the remaining critical case is suffering from internal injuries in various areas and severe hemorrhaging, and has been receiving medication since Friday to raise blood pressure and attempt to stabilize their health condition, confirming that their condition has been difficult since arriving at the hospital, despite the medical efforts exerted over the past hours.

He added that the injured person underwent surgery and received large quantities of blood to compensate for the blood loss, and still requires medical follow-up and treatments to raise blood pressure, noting that medical staff exerted their utmost efforts to deal with their condition.

Al-Hawari announced the martyrdom of one of the two critical cases that were receiving treatment at Prince Ali Military Hospital, bringing the number of martyrs of the terrorist attack to 8, after the toll announced on Friday was 7 martyrs.

He indicated that most of the injuries received by the hospitals were accompanied by significant hemorrhaging and arterial injuries, which necessitated surgical procedures and blood transfusions for the injured.

Regarding the conditions of the rest of the injured, Al-Hawari said that the other six cases at Prince Ali Military Hospital are stable, while 5 cases are receiving treatment at Karak Governmental Hospital, all of which are stable, and some cases may leave the hospital on Saturday after their health conditions are evaluated.

He pointed out that 8 injured people were transferred to Al-Hussein Medical City, including 7 stable cases in very good health, while an eighth case is under close medical observation due to injuries to the spleen and other areas, despite their general health condition being stable.

He added that Al-Bashir Hospital received 3 cases, two of which underwent surgery and are in stable condition, while 3 other cases are receiving treatment at the Italian Hospital in Karak, all of which are stable.

Al-Hawari affirmed that medical staff in various hospitals continue to monitor the injured and provide them with the necessary care, praising the efforts of the medical teams that dealt with the cases upon their arrival.

The Head of the Surgery Department at Prince Ali Military Hospital, Mahmoud Sawalqa, had confirmed to "Al-Mamlaka" on Saturday morning that two critical cases had undergone major surgeries and were on ventilators and under close medical monitoring before the martyrdom of one of them was announced.

Sawalqa explained that the hospital received 26 cases on Friday, including martyrs and injured, and that 5 injured were admitted to operating rooms immediately upon arrival, noting that most of the injuries were in the abdomen, in addition to injuries to the chest and limbs.

The Jordanian Armed Forces announced at dawn on Saturday that, under royal directives, 8 injured were evacuated to Al-Hussein Medical City by a Royal Air Force helicopter, while 3 cases were transferred to a private hospital.

Public Security Director Obaidullah Al-Maaytah announced on Friday that 7 people were martyred and 27 others were injured as a result of the terrorist attack, before the death toll rose to 8 on Saturday.
