Launch of the Fourth Edition of the Mohammad Ayyash Mulhim Literary Award

The Board of Trustees of the late Mohammad Ayyash Mulhim Literary Award, "Ibn Al-Janoub" (Son of the South), has launched the fourth edition for 2026 under the theme "Literature of Place: Aesthetics of Memory, History, and Heritage," inviting male and female writers from across the Arab world to participate in the award, which celebrates the "place" as a vessel for human memory, stories, and transformations.

The Chairman of the Award’s Board of Trustees, writer Mufleh Al-Adwan, stated that participation is open to both genders from all Arab countries, provided the applicant is at least 30 years old by December 31, 2026, and that the literary work submitted was published during 2025 or 2026, bearing a deposit number and an International Standard Book Number (ISBN).

He explained that the submitted work must address the literature of place within a high-quality literary narrative that evokes the memory of the place, draws inspiration from its heritage and aesthetics, and the stories associated with it. It must also embody noble national, social, or human values, while adhering to standard Arabic and being free of linguistic, spelling, and typographical errors.

The award stipulates that the work must not have been previously submitted to another award or won a prize inside or outside the Kingdom. It must not be plagiarized, copied, quoted from social media, or generated by artificial intelligence. The award administration reserves the right to reject entries that do not meet the conditions, and the judging committee reserves the right to withhold or withdraw the award if a violation of the terms is proven.

Al-Adwan noted that the judging committee will consist of three members selected by the Board of Trustees from those with expertise in the field of the competition.

He indicated that entries will be accepted starting from October 20 of this year until December 31, 2026, with winners to be announced on February 27, 2027. The total value of the cash prizes is 3,000 Jordanian Dinars, distributed as 1,500 Dinars for first place, 1,000 Dinars for second place, and 500 Dinars for third place, in addition to certificates of appreciation and participation for the winners.

Entries should be sent electronically in "PDF" format, accompanied by a copy of the national ID or passport, a recent personal photo, and the participation form and declaration, to the email: director@mulhimaward.com. Entries may also be sent in hard copy to the Tawasul Cultural Association, The Late Mohammad Ayyash Mulhim Literary Award "Ibn Al-Janoub," P.O. Box 940570, Amman 11194, Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.

Al-Adwan emphasized the importance of choosing the theme of "place" due to the stories and narratives it carries that reflect the culture and narrative of society, and its connection to human life, livelihood, and memories, as a repository that preserves the details of experiences and transformations over time.

For her part, the President of the Tawasul Cultural Association and family representative on the award's Board of Trustees, Rima Mulhim, said that the fourth edition celebrates the place, its history, aesthetics, and heritage through prose creations that represent part of the story of the land and the human being.

She added that the award is an extension of what its founder believed in regarding the importance of generations documenting their memory and the memory of their ancestors, including the values, customs, testimonies, characters, and events contained in narratives that document historical eras and bear witness to the transformations that have occurred to the place and the human being.

It is noteworthy that the award has launched three previous editions covering novels and short stories, in addition to a prize dedicated to the narratives of resistance in Palestine in cooperation with the Jordanian Writers Association.
