The Saudi venture capital fund "Vision Ventures" organized a specialized entrepreneurial event in Amman last week entitled "Building a Billion-Dollar Startup from Jordan?".
This event comes to enhance Vision Ventures' contribution to supporting Jordanian entrepreneurs with awareness and guidance, and to consolidate its strategic partnership with the "Jordan Pioneers Fund", which is one of its main investors.
The CEO of the Jordan Pioneers Fund, Mohammad Al-Muhtaseb, emphasized the importance of the event as an embodiment of the fund's strategic partnerships with the investment funds in which it invests, and to benefit from their support for the Jordanian entrepreneurship ecosystem in investment fields, in addition to helping with expansion and opening regional markets.
Al-Muhtaseb said that the Jordan Pioneers Fund focuses its efforts on attracting regional and global investment funds, with a goal that goes beyond simply providing financial funding to startups; as the fund seeks to bring in partners who possess expertise and knowledge and are able to open new markets for local startups, and help them grow and expand regionally and internationally.
In this context, Al-Muhtaseb praised the model of the Saudi "Vision Ventures" fund, which has invested in 4 Jordanian startups to date. He explained that the fund represents a model of the partner investor who transfers knowledge and practical experience to the Jordanian entrepreneurial ecosystem, benefiting from the entrepreneurial background of its founders, which was clearly embodied in the organization of this mentoring and guidance event.
Al-Muhtaseb said that Jordan and the region are distinguished by competencies and expertise in the fields of digital transformation, which puts them in an excellent position to benefit from the acceleration witnessed by regional and global markets. He pointed out the untapped potential which creates strong opportunities and huge space for growth and expansion if a nurturing environment, appropriate support, and smart venture capital are provided.
The event hosted Qais Al-Essa, Co-founder and CEO of "Vision Ventures", who reviewed - through his experiences in the technology, entrepreneurship, and investment sectors - the strategic steps and necessary practices that enable startups to expand rapidly, reach the path to success and then to billion-dollar valuations (Unicorns) starting from the business environment in the region. He emphasized that the primary magnet to attract venture capital begins with investing in the entrepreneur and the team before the idea itself, as funds look for passion, flexible execution capability, and rapid market testing of the product rather than waiting for theoretical perfection.
During the session, Al-Essa stressed that the entrepreneurship sector is rich with huge and extended growth opportunities for innovators and startups in the region. He emphasized that transforming into a billion-dollar company (unicorn) requires proving actual market need with figures and indicators, targeting huge markets, and making regional expansion a part of the company's DNA from day one.
Al-Essa said that building a billion-dollar company means the ability to move flexibly across the geography of the region, emphasizing that Vision Ventures is always working to build strategic bridges to connect the region's markets and facilitate the transfer of tech companies and their expansion through its regional partnerships, including the partnership with the Jordan Pioneers Fund. He stressed that venture capital investment is an extended strategic partnership and not just financial support.
Al-Essa cautioned that entering a new market requires a studied methodology and continuous product development to suit the aspirations and needs of the consumer there, ensuring operational efficiency and financial sustainability that reshapes economic sectors.
The event received a dense and qualitative attendance including dozens of founders, entrepreneurs, and an elite group of technology and business sector experts who enriched the meeting with discussions supporting their entrepreneurial journey.
Among the participants, software engineer Amir Ashhab stressed the utmost importance of the continuity of these events, as they allow those working in the tech field to review local and global experiences, obtain guidance keeping pace with developments, and play a fundamental role in networking and building professional relationships.
Ashhab emphasized the importance of the experiences and feedback he received that may help him in the future to develop his work or build his own company, especially what the event emphasized regarding the importance of speed in turning ideas into startups and the necessity of having a vision for future expansion and growth.
