Italian cities, including Milan, Turin, and Bologna, witnessed clashes between demonstrators and security forces during protests over the rising cost of living, an extension of the wave of protests that erupted in France, resulting in 25 injuries in Milan, including 10 police officers, and the arrest of dozens of people in the three cities.
In Milan, a march launched to protest the economic crisis turned into clashes on Broletto Street and in the city center, particularly Piazza del Duomo, where police used tear gas, water cannons, and high-pressure hoses to disperse the crowds, while demonstrators pelted security forces with firecrackers, fireworks, stones, and various objects, including trash bins and metal barriers.
The events resulted in 25 people being taken to various hospitals, including 10 police officers, with none of them in critical condition.
Authorities announced the arrest of 50 people in Milan, half of whom were minors, following the unrest that spread to the vicinity of the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II.
In Turin, clashes erupted that lasted for about an hour, involving masked youths who pelted security forces with bottles, sticks, and stones.
Police arrested 12 people, including 10 minors, who were found in possession of Molotov cocktails, firecrackers, stones, and glass-breaking hammers, while some are suspected of involvement in acts of vandalism, and the competent authorities continue to review their files.
