The President of the International Committee of the Red Cross, Mirjana Spoljaric, called on Tuesday for urgent efforts to "de-escalate" in the Middle East, warning that an escalation of hostilities would be "catastrophic" for tens of millions of people.

Spoljaric said in a statement that "any further escalation of hostilities would be catastrophic for tens of millions of people. Therefore, urgent efforts must be made to de-escalate and protect civilians from further harm."
