The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) stated on Sunday that it had received a report of an incident northeast of Khor Fakkan in the UAE, where a tugboat sailing southward reported being struck by two projectiles of unknown origin.
The authority added, via its website, that the incident resulted in one minor injury and caused damage to the tugboat, noting at the same time that it is continuing its voyage on its route.
It urged vessels to exercise caution while navigating in the area and to report any suspicious activity to the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), as the competent authorities conduct their investigations into the incident.
Tehran has effectively closed the strategic Strait of Hormuz since the outbreak of war on February 28 following Iran's war. In response, the United States imposed a naval blockade on Iranian ports.
Tehran also announced in September the establishment of a "prohibited zone" near this vital waterway for global hydrocarbon trade, an area covering part of the Gulf of Oman.
