Industrial Waste Water Tanks Seized in Sewage Network

The Internal Control Unit of the Ministry of Water and Irrigation/Water Authority, on Monday, seized tanks discharging their loads in the Al-Qastel area south of Amman in a manner that is contrary to regulations and repeatedly, as it was found that there is a large yard where waste water tanks gather.

The seizure operation came based on technical information about the difference in the quality of wastewater in the network and reports about the presence of industrial waste in the sewage network, which reached the Internal Control Unit in the Ministry, where the company Mayahuna conducted a joint field survey in cooperation with specialized technical teams.

According to a statement by the Ministry of Water and Irrigation, three tanks were observed entering the site within one hour for the purpose of discharge, with an estimated capacity of approximately 30 m³ each, which confirms the discharge of large quantities of wastewater in a short period of time.

After coordinating a security campaign in cooperation with the competent authorities in the Ministry of Interior and the Public Security Directorate to conduct a field survey and raid the site, the illegal discharge point was identified, which was hidden inside a room made of "zinc", covered with dust and a number of diesel gallons, which led to its concealment and difficulty in detection.

The statement explained that after conducting field surveys and tracing the discharge line, it was found that a line was connected to one of the manholes belonging to the sewage carrier to the purification station south of Amman, which allows the discharge of waste materials directly into the sewage network. The causes of the violation were removed, the illegal discharge point was treated, and the Mayahuna laboratories were instructed to take samples of the materials that were discharged into the line, in preparation for conducting the necessary laboratory tests and determining the nature of the discharged materials and their compliance with the applicable requirements and standards.

The Ministry pointed out the completion of the necessary regulatory, technical and legal procedures, and taking what is necessary against the violators in accordance with the systems and instructions in force, as the investigations indicate the collection of sums of money for each tank by the violator, who contracted with a large number of factories in the region, which threatens the treatment system at the sewage station south of Amman.

The competent authorities are continuing the investigation to apprehend the offenders, and the seizure documents related to the incident have been prepared and transferred to the competent authorities to complete the legal procedures.
