The head coach of the Egyptian national team, Hossam Hassan, made a sensational statement in his first reaction to the penalty imposed on him by the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA).
The Egyptian Football Association received the decisions of FIFA's Disciplinary Committee regarding the penalties imposed on Hossam Hassan, his brother Ibrahim Hassan, the team director, and player Moustafa Ziko. The Hassan twins were suspended for 3 matches each, while Ziko was suspended for 5 matches, in addition to financial fines imposed on the trio totaling $60,000.
In special statements to the Egyptian website "Yalla Kora" commenting on his suspension decision, Hossam Hassan said: "It is an honor for me," adding: "I leave matters to God Almighty, and we will see what happens in the future."
The penalties came against the backdrop of statements following the match between Egypt and Argentina in the Round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup, which ended with the Pharaohs losing 2-3, amid accusations leveled by the Egyptian side against FIFA and the refereeing crew of favoring the Argentine national team.
Under the decision, Hossam Hassan, Ibrahim Hassan, and Moustafa Ziko will miss the Egyptian national team's two matches against Malawi, scheduled for next November, as part of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
