Greater Amman Municipality participates in Arab Towns Organization meetings in Salalah

The Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) participated in the 64th Executive Council meeting and the 20th General Conference of the Arab Towns Organization (ATO), held in Salalah, Dhofar Governorate, Sultanate of Oman, under the theme "More Innovative and Sustainable Cities," with the participation of several heads and representatives of Arab cities and municipalities.

The Chairman of the Amman Municipality Committee was represented at the meeting and conference by his deputy, Engineer Zaid Al-Rihani, as part of the Municipality's commitment to maintaining its active presence in ATO meetings, enhancing its contribution to the Arab municipal work process, and exchanging expertise and experiences among Arab cities.

GAM's participation aims to exchange experiences and expertise with cities in various fields of urban work, benefit from successful practices in city development, improve service efficiency, and enhance sustainability and innovation to keep pace with the transformations and challenges facing Arab cities, as well as to expand cooperation frameworks and partnerships that contribute to developing municipal work and improving the quality of life for citizens.

The conference proceedings, which lasted for two days, included a meeting of the institutions affiliated with the Arab Towns Organization, in addition to the 64th Executive Council meeting, which discussed several agenda items, as well as files and issues related to the work of the ATO, the development of its institutions, and the strengthening of its role in supporting and empowering Arab cities. It also featured scientific sessions addressing topics relevant to the work of Arab cities concerning the future of cities, primarily smart cities, the digital environment, cybersecurity, and sustainable urban mobility, in line with the rapid challenges and transformations facing Arab cities, in addition to a session for institutions supervised by the Arab Urban Development Institute.

Representatives of cities and municipalities also participated in the official opening of the 20th General Conference of the Arab Towns Organization, which included speeches by several officials and heads of previous and current sessions, alongside a panel discussion supervised by the Arab Urban Development Institute.

The conference concluded with the presentation and adoption of recommendations and the final statement, followed by the announcement of the conclusion of the conference proceedings.

The Municipality's participation underscores the importance of the Arab Towns Organization as an inclusive framework for Arab cities and municipalities, and a platform for exchanging knowledge and expertise and discussing issues and challenges facing cities, in addition to strengthening joint cooperation in areas related to sustainable urban development, innovation, and the development of municipal services.

It also reflects the role played by the city of Amman within the Arab Towns Organization system, as it hosts two of the organization's institutions: the Arab Smart Cities Forum and the Cultural Working Group for Arab Cities, both chaired by the Chairman of the Amman Municipality Committee. This enhances Amman's presence in specialized Arab cooperation tracks and contributes to the exchange of expertise in the fields of digital transformation and smart cities, as well as culture and its role in urban development and strengthening identity and belonging to cities.

On the sidelines of the conference, Engineer Zaid Al-Rihani held a bilateral meeting with the Chairman of Dhofar Municipality, Dr. Ahmed bin Mohsen Al-Ghassani, during which they discussed ways to enhance cooperation and exchange expertise between the Greater Amman Municipality and Dhofar Municipality, and reviewed opportunities for joint cooperation in the fields of municipal work and urban development, in a way that strengthens relations and communication between the two cities and serves mutual interests.
