French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu on Tuesday accused the radical left of seeking to incite chaos ahead of the presidential elections, which will hold their first round in April, through escalating student protests.
Lecornu said during a government interrogation session in the National Assembly, "The truth is that you are dealing ambiguously with violence, because violence is part of your political project aimed at plunging the country into chaos from now until the presidential elections."
He added, "Sowing chaos as you have been doing since the beginning of the high school student movement is despicable, and we will not allow you to do so," in response to a sharp attack launched against him by Mathilde Panot, the head of the "France Insoumise" radical left party bloc.
