The Jerash Tourism Directorate organized an exhibition of handicrafts and local products near the Arch of Triumph in the archaeological city, lasting for two days, with the participation of 17 display tables, in celebration of World Tourism Day.
Jerash Tourism Director Thaer Al-Eiasrah told "Al-Mamlaka" that the importance of holding such exhibitions lies in enriching the visitor's experience and extending their stay, as well as enhancing the heritage and cultural identity of Jerash.
Al-Eiasrah added that these events contribute to the development of an integrated system for local products in Jerash, including agricultural, food, handicrafts, and traditional industries, which significantly contribute to creating job opportunities for the local community.
He pointed out that the Directorate continuously seeks to hold exhibitions and bazaars to economically empower the local community and connect them with local and international exhibitions and bazaars, which helps in marketing their products and opening new markets for them.
The Director of the Women's Empowerment Unit at the Greater Jerash Municipality, Iman Bani Mustafa, said that the unit participated in the exhibition through a number of women who displayed handicrafts and traditional crafts, noting that these crafts were made at home by the participating women.
Bani Mustafa explained that the Women's Empowerment Unit oversees the women, evaluates their participation, and enhances it by organizing training courses that raise their productive capacities and strengthen their economic participation in the labor market.
Bani Mustafa pointed out that the Municipality, through the Women's Empowerment Unit and in cooperation with a number of institutions in the governorate, seeks to create a permanent market for promoting and marketing the products made by women.
The President of the Union of Charitable Associations, Zaid Al-Zoubi, said that the participation of associations in such exhibitions has an economic impact on the participants, contributes to their training and skill development, and creates job opportunities within the local community.
Al-Zoubi added that these participations contribute to achieving the objectives and goals of the associations by helping individuals develop their skills and transform them into productive individuals.
Ahmed Al-Samadi, one of the participants in the exhibition, said that holding such exhibitions, especially within the visitor's path to the archaeological site, has an economic impact on the participants and provides an opportunity to network with other exhibitions and events.
Al-Samadi added that all the products on display fall under Jordanian heritage and identity, allowing the visitor to view them and learn about the handicrafts and local products linked to Jordanian heritage.
