Argentine Chelsea goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez said he would be ready to return to the pitch "in a few weeks," after undergoing surgery to treat a broken jaw he sustained during the 2-0 victory over Everton in the English Premier League.
The Argentine international goalkeeper was taken to the hospital following a collision with Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite during the second half of the match, which was held on Saturday as part of the seventh round.
Martínez, 34, required eight minutes of treatment on the pitch before being carried off on a stretcher.
Spanish Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso later explained that Martínez had suffered a concussion.
Martínez, winner of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, wrote on social media on Sunday, attaching a photo of himself from his hospital bed: "Thank you all for your messages. The operation went well."
He added, "The most important thing is that we got the win and kept a clean sheet. I will be back in a few weeks."
Mike Penders is set to replace Martínez during his absence.
The 21-year-old goalkeeper made his league debut as a substitute in the Everton match. Penders joined Chelsea from Belgian club Genk in August 2024 and spent the last two seasons on loan at other clubs, including a spell with French side Strasbourg last season.
Chelsea sits in fourth place with 13 points, trailing league leaders Manchester City by 8 points.
