Local media reported that Dutch football matches will be cancelled if fireworks are launched in the stands, under a new agreement between the local football association, the public prosecution service, and Minister of Justice and Security David van Weel.
This step comes after a number of fans suffered burns and hearing damage when Feyenoord supporters threw fireworks towards the supporters of hosts SC Cambuur last month.
Van Weel told the Dutch newspaper AD: "From now on, the rule is: if fireworks are launched, the match ends immediately and everyone present in the stadium can go home."
The match was suspended for about 20 minutes in the first half after Feyenoord fans lit fireworks, some of which targeted Cambuur fans, while one exploded on the pitch just a few meters away from Feyenoord goalkeeper Thijs Jansen.
Cambuur later announced that five fans were injured.
