Data from the Civil Status and Passports Department showed that the average number of Jordanian births on days with special dates reached 629 per day during 2025, compared to the general daily average of 415 births, according to the Higher Population Council, which noted a trend among some Jordanian families to plan birth dates to coincide with dates that hold special significance for them.
The Council explained that the number of births registered in Jordan during 2025 reached 170,780, including 19,203 births to non-Jordanian parents, while the number of Jordanian births reached 151,577.
It indicated that the comparison was based on 6 dates considered special, including May 5, 15, and 25, in addition to the parents' wedding anniversary and the birth dates of both the father and mother, where the average number of Jordanian births on these dates reached 629 per day, an increase of 214 births over the general daily average.
The Council pointed out that some families may resort to scheduling the birth date to coincide with a special date, either by scheduling a cesarean section in agreement with the doctor, or by using medication to induce labor before its natural time.
It warned that performing cesarean sections solely to choose a birth date, without medical justification, may expose the mother and newborn to long-term health risks, emphasizing that a cesarean section is a major surgical intervention.
The Council stressed the necessity of subjecting any decision related to determining the birth date to a medical evaluation that takes into account the gestational age, birth order, and the health status of the mother and fetus, and not to take medical measures just for the family's desire to choose a special date at the expense of health safety.
