Italian coach Carlo Ancelotti, manager of the Brazilian national team, is relying on the upcoming friendly matches against Australia and India to showcase a "new generation" following the early exit from the 2026 World Cup, he said yesterday.
The Brazilian national team is attempting to rebuild its ranks after being eliminated in the Round of 16 at the North American World Cup.
They face Australia today in Townsville and then on Tuesday in Brisbane, before playing a final friendly match against India on October 3 in Kolkata.
Ancelotti said in a press conference in Brisbane, "Our goal is to find a new generation."
The starting lineup for Friday's match notably includes defender Vitor Reis (20), and attacking talents Estêvão (19) and Endrick (20), alongside experienced players Marquinhos, Bruno Guimarães, Raphinha, and Vinícius Júnior.
Ancelotti expressed his confidence in "the core players who participated in the World Cup (...) they can contribute to the development of the youngsters," praising the current form of forward Raphinha, who has 12 goals and three assists with Barcelona in the first seven rounds of the Spanish League.
The Seleção coach also expressed his support for Vinícius, who is facing a difficult start to the season with Real Madrid, trailing six points behind leaders Barcelona, confirming his conviction that Raphinha and Vinícius "will be key players for the future" of the national team.
He also defended Estêvão, who is struggling with English club Chelsea, saying, "Sometimes the club's interest is not the same as the national team's. Even if he doesn't play, and even if he doesn't get playing time with the club, I will call him up" and "I will give him a chance to develop." The Italian coach considered the decision by Brazilian clubs to reduce the quota of foreign players per team from nine to five by 2030 "very positive," adding, "It is important to give opportunities to Brazilian talents, and they are very abundant."
