The Princess Aisha Bint Al-Hussein Faculty of Nursing at Al-Hussein Bin Talal University organized, on Wednesday, a scientific research forum on the occasion of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, titled: "Breast Cancer: From Knowledge to Nursing Practice – Integrated Care, Psychological Support, and Artificial Intelligence Applications," with the participation of academics, researchers, health practitioners, students, and representatives from the Ma'an Health Directorate.
Dean of the Faculty, Dr. Duaa Dweirej, emphasized that the forum embodies the academic and professional responsibility of educational institutions in translating research findings and scientific evidence into effective health practices, stressing that breast cancer awareness is not complete without precise knowledge of medical recommendations and their correct application in clinical practice.
Dweirej reviewed the results of a recent Jordanian survey study that showed a gap between general knowledge about breast cancer and the application of early detection recommendations, including clinical examination and mammography, among healthcare providers.
The results indicated that the overall average knowledge reached 57 percent, while the rate of optimal practices related to determining the recommended screening intervals did not exceed 20.8 percent.
Dr. Mahmoud Al-Saraira addressed health promotion interventions to increase the uptake of breast cancer screenings, while instructor Ahmed Al-Sayeh presented a case study on the psychological responses of women upon a breast cancer diagnosis, highlighting the importance of psychological support within the integrated care system.
The forum included a collection of scientific papers and specialized lectures covering healthcare, diagnosis, and psychological support; Dr. Ibtihal Al-Naimat presented a lecture titled "Artificial Intelligence and Innovation in Early Detection and Nursing Care for Breast Cancer," while Dr. Iqbal Al-Farajat reviewed the common and uncommon symptoms of breast cancer.
The Nursing Division at the Directorate participated with an educational and awareness lecture aimed at enhancing health literacy regarding the importance of early detection, in addition to discussing the role of health personnel in spreading awareness and guiding women toward periodic screenings.
The forum concluded with a panel discussion to address participants' questions and the launch of the national research project concerned with enhancing early breast cancer detection practices, which supports the development of evidence-based nursing practices and contributes to improving the quality of healthcare and community service.
