5 civilians injured in Taiz as the army carries out 780 operations against the Houthis in Yemen

Yemen witnessed a military escalation on Thursday, resulting in 5 civilians, including 3 children, being injured in Taiz Governorate in the southwest of the country due to Houthi attacks, while the army announced the execution of 780 targeting operations within 24 hours against Houthi sites and gatherings on several fronts.

In response, the Houthi group announced the execution of 4 military operations targeting sites in Saudi Arabia, while the Arab Coalition supporting legitimacy in Yemen stated that it intercepted and destroyed a number of drones.

A mosque and a school in Taiz were also subjected to shelling, which Yemeni authorities said was carried out by the Houthis, while President of the Presidential Leadership Council Rashad al-Alimi affirmed that the escalation will not stop the "Fajr Yemen" (Yemen Dawn) operation.

In a field development, 5 civilians, including 3 children, were injured as a result of shelling and gunfire that local authorities in Taiz said were carried out by the Houthis in various areas of the governorate.

According to statistics issued by the Siege Affairs Office in Taiz, 3 civilians, including two children aged 8 and 9, were injured by shrapnel in the chest and abdomen as a result of shelling targeting the Old Airport area.

The statistics added that a 30-year-old woman was shot in the back in the Najd Moshra'a area in Moshra'a wa Hadnan District, while a child was injured by sniper fire on the outskirts of the Anbyan sub-district in Al-Misrakh District.

There was no immediate comment from the Houthis regarding this.

In the same governorate, the official Yemeni News Agency "Saba" reported that Houthi shelling targeted a mosque and a school in the village of Al-Najd in Moshra'a wa Hadnan District, southern Taiz, causing major material damage.

The agency quoted an unnamed local source as saying that a number of shells fell on a mosque and the Omar Al-Tayyar School in the village, causing damage to both facilities.

No casualties were reported as a result of the shelling, and there was no immediate comment from the Houthis.

In a related context, the Yemeni army announced the continuation of its offensive operations against the Houthis as part of the "Fajr Yemen" operation in the northern fronts, Al-Jawf, western Marib, Al-Bayda, and the southern and western fronts.

The spokesman for the Armed Forces, Majid Al-Nuzaili, stated via the American company platform "X" that the forces carried out "780 precise and direct targeting operations" during the past 24 hours, targeting field leadership, gatherings, and reinforcements of the Houthis, in addition to heavy weapon sites, fortified positions, vehicles, and supply routes.

He added that the operations resulted in "neutralizing about 512" Houthi elements and leaders, and destroying and disabling more than 330 vehicles, military mechanisms, and personnel transport means, alongside destroying heavy weapons and reinforcements that were on their way to the front lines in Taiz, with no immediate comment from the Houthis regarding this.

The Yemeni army launched a series of airstrikes targeting Houthi positions in various areas of Taiz Governorate, including missile launchers, radars, military communication systems, and weapons depots, according to official media outlets and military statements.

Al-Yemen satellite channel stated that the warplanes of the armed forces launched airstrikes over the past hours on Houthi positions in the areas of Al-Arma, Al-Munim line, Al-Sana, Mudirat, Al-Misrakh, and Al-Jand, in western, southern, and eastern Taiz.

For its part, the Taiz Military Axis affiliated with the army announced in a statement that warplanes launched an airstrike on Houthi patrols and gatherings in Wadi Hanish in the Mudirat area, west of Taiz city.

The statement added that the warplanes launched several airstrikes on the Dhi Al-Barih area in Al-Misrakh District, and three airstrikes in Al-Shamaytayn District, south of the governorate, without providing details on the losses resulting from them.

The aforementioned sources did not announce any change in control lines as a result of these airstrikes.

According to the Anadolu Agency correspondent, neither the Yemeni government forces nor the Houthis achieved any decisive progress over the past hours in Taiz and Lahij governorates, where the field stalemate continued despite the military escalation, amid geographical, military, and strategic complexities governing both governorates.

In this context, the President of the Presidential Leadership Council, Rashad al-Alimi, held a phone call with council member and Governor of Hadramout Salem Al-Khanbashi, to be briefed on the situation in the governorate following Houthi attacks on Rayyan International Airport, according to the official "Saba" agency.

The agency stated that Al-Alimi was briefed on the aftermath of the attacks, the workflow at the airport, the measures taken to protect travelers and workers and ensure the continuity of services, alongside the security and humanitarian conditions and efforts to meet the needs of citizens and displaced persons.

He praised the measures taken to protect vital facilities, and the efforts to receive displaced persons and treat the victims of the attacks in the governorate's hospitals.

Al-Alimi affirmed that targeting airports and civilian facilities in Yemen and neighboring countries, and shelling residential neighborhoods in Taiz and elsewhere, "will not deter the Yemeni people and their armed forces from continuing the battle to restore state institutions," according to the agency.

He added that the Houthi escalation will not stop the "Fajr Yemen" operation from achieving its objectives, according to the same source.

In the context of the attacks on Saudi Arabia, the Arab Coalition supporting legitimacy in Yemen announced the interception and destruction of 4 drones in the Riyadh and Medina regions.

Coalition spokesman Turki Al-Maliki stated on "X" that defenses intercepted and destroyed 4 drones in the two regions, without providing additional details regarding the targets they were heading towards.

Earlier on Thursday, the coalition announced the interception and destruction of a drone in the Riyadh region.

In contrast, Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree stated in a statement on "X" that the group carried out 4 military operations using ballistic missiles and drones targeting sites inside Saudi Arabia during the past 48 hours.

Saree mentioned that the first operation targeted the Ministry of Defense building in Riyadh, claiming a "direct hit."

He added that the second operation targeted King Fahd International Airport in Dammam, stating that it led to the disruption of navigation traffic at the airport.

He also mentioned that the third operation targeted an Aramco facility in Yanbu, western Saudi Arabia, leading to a fire breaking out at the site, and that the fourth operation targeted Abha International Airport in the southwest of the kingdom.

It was not independently possible to verify the truth of these claims or the results of the announced operations.

In another development, the Yemeni Ministry of Defense warned citizens in Houthi-controlled areas against participating in mass gatherings and cultural courses, considering that these gatherings may become "legitimate military targets."

The Ministry said in a statement that it warns against participating in gatherings held under the names of "tribal mobilization, mass rallies, cultural courses, and other names."

Tribal mobilization is a social tradition in Yemen based on calling upon tribe members to rally in response to a specific issue or stance, such as revenge, defending one of its members, supporting a party in a conflict, or expressing a collective stance.

The Ministry accused the Houthis of exploiting these gatherings to mobilize children, youth, and citizens, and pushing them into combat operations, calling on residents to stay away from them and not allow their children to be exploited and their lives put at risk.

In the context of human casualties, the World Health Organization of the United Nations reported in a report reviewed by Anadolu that 8,513 victims were monitored as a result of the military escalation in Yemen from the beginning of last August until October 19.

The organization clarified on Thursday that the toll includes 1,574 dead and 6,939 injured, without specifying the identities of the victims or whether they were civilians, military personnel, or both.

It added that during the past eight days, it monitored 292 deaths and 1,048 injuries.

Since March 2015, Saudi Arabia has been leading a military coalition to support the internationally recognized Yemeni government in confronting the Houthi group, which has controlled the capital Sana'a and several governorates since September 2014, and is accused of receiving Iranian support.

The Houthis control most of the northern and western governorates, including Sana'a, Sa'ada, Amran, Dhamar, Al-Hodeidah, Ibb, Al-Mahwit, and Raymah, while they impose partial control in the governorates of Hajjah, Al-Bayda, Marib, Al-Jawf, Al-Dhale', and Taiz.

In contrast, government forces and their allies control the temporary capital Aden, and the governorates of Al-Mahrah, Hadramout, Shabwah, Abyan, the majority of Lahij and Al-Dhale' governorates, in addition to parts of Taiz, Marib, Al-Jawf, Hajjah, and Sa'ada.
