The attention of wrestling fans is turning to the Jordanian capital Amman, which is hosting the World Championship for Masters and Veterans in Greco-Roman and Freestyle Wrestling, from October 6 to October 11 next, at the Princess Sumaya Hall in the Hussein Youth City.
The national team is participating in the World Championship with six players, namely: Yahya Abu Tabikh, Saleh Al-Zaraiqat, Ramzi Al-Marafi, Hani Al-Marafi, Ibrahim Arar, and Haitham Al-Araj, along with the participation of a group of Jordanian referees, namely: Monir Al-Sulaq, Nayef Alloush, Rushdan Nada, Muhammad Jamous, Zain Kreshan, and Abdullah Jamal.
The championship will see the participation of 527 players representing 50 countries, along with 43 referees, 20 coaches, and 7 representatives of the International Wrestling Federation, with a total attendance estimated at about 3 thousand people, including family members of the participants and the fans who will follow the competitions.
The championship's importance is not only due to the size of the participation, but it also carries a sports and humanitarian message that goes beyond competition and results; it opens its doors to the fans and the new generation of players, juniors, and youth, to recall the glories of the champions of yesterday, to get closer to their stories, experiences, and sports careers, and to learn about models that made their history on the mat, in search of role models, inspiration, and to follow in the footsteps of achievers.
The championship also presents a different picture of sports, titled continuity, giving, and renewed passion, through the participation of athletes aged between 35 and 60 years, who continue to maintain their physical readiness and take care of their health and fitness, proving that the passage of years does not mean the end of ambition, and that the body accustomed to challenges is still capable of regaining its presence on the mat.
