((Women's Sevens Rugby)) intensifies its preparations

The national women's rugby sevens team continues to intensify its physical and tactical training in preparation for participating in the Asian Women's Sevens Rugby Championship - UAE Cup 2026 for the West and Central Asia region, hosted by the Jordanian Rugby Federation at Ayla Oasis in Aqaba on Friday and Saturday, November 6 and 7, with the participation of 14 teams representing nine Asian countries.

The championship witnesses the women's competition with the participation of five teams: Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Syria, and Iraq, in an important competitive station aimed at developing technical levels, exchanging experiences, and enhancing women's presence in rugby at the continental level. Meanwhile, the men's competition includes nine teams: Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Bahrain, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Kyrgyzstan, and Pakistan.

National women's team player Hala Amr confirmed that preparations for participating in the continental championship are proceeding at an escalating pace, explaining that the team has a great ambition to compete, achieve ideal results, and present positive levels worthy of the nation's name.

The team player invited Jordanian fans of various categories to attend and support the Nashayarat of rugby, emphasizing that fan support constitutes an additional incentive for the players to give their best and achieve their competitive aspirations.

For his part, team coach Shamel Shabsough confirmed that the technical staff worked on preparing the players physically as a group, according to a preparatory program aimed at reaching the highest degrees of readiness before the start of the championship, stressing that the team's ambition is always to compete for the title.

Shabsough pointed out that the volume of work, planning, and efforts made by the federation, along with the support provided to the team, impose a great responsibility on the technical staff and players to translate these exceptional efforts into performance and results that reflect the level of ambition.

In contrast, the Secretary-General of the Federation, Aziz Abu Khalf, sees that hosting the championship represents an important milestone in the path of developing the game locally, and constitutes an opportunity to enhance the presence of national teams in Asian competitions, stressing the federation's keenness to provide all requirements of preparation and organization, contributing to the success of the championship and supporting the journey of both the national men's and women's teams.

Abu Khalf continued: The federation adopts a gradual and well-studied approach in developing the women's rugby program at the level of national teams, ensuring the building of a solid base of players, enhancing technical and competitive experiences, and reaching a state of representing Jordan in an honorable manner in external assignments.

He explained that the team's journey began by participating in Arab championships before moving to the continental level, as the team recorded its first appearance in the Asian Rugby Sevens Championship during the last edition hosted by the Sultanate of Oman, making that participation an important milestone in the team's development path and acquiring the necessary players' experience to compete at the Asian level.

He added: This is our second consecutive participation at the continental level, and it represents a new step in the journey of the women's team, an important opportunity to build on the gains previously achieved, measure the extent of development that has occurred in the players' performance, and enhance their physical, technical, and tactical readiness.

He also pointed out that the federation pays increasing attention to developing women's rugby, providing opportunities for competitive friction, expanding the base of practitioners, and refining promising talents, which contributes to consolidating the national team's presence in the Asian arena.

Hosting this continental championship comes within the framework of the federation's efforts aimed at expanding the base of practicing the game, elevating the technical levels of the national teams, enhancing Jordan's presence in Asian assignments, alongside cementing the Kingdom's position as a destination for hosting regional and continental sports championships, opening new horizons for male and female players to continue development and achieve achievements.
