With Jordanian and international participation.. and the presence of Ambassador Ghneimat, inauguration of a huge mosaic mural celebrating the centenary of 'Souk Maaarif' in Casablanca

A huge mosaic mural was inaugurated in the Maaarif district of Casablanca, the economic capital of Morocco, created by a collective effort involving a group of specialized mosaic artists from various countries around the world, to decorate the facade of the Maaarif Municipal Market in celebration of the 100th anniversary of its establishment.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by the Ambassador of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan to the Kingdom of Morocco, Jumana Ghneimat, the President of the Maaarif District Council, Abdel Sadiq Mershid, and the project director and President of the 'Professional Creativity and Development' Association, which organized the forum, Fatima Benlaali, along with a group of cultural and artistic figures.

This artistic mural, which spans an area of approximately 40 square meters, is part of the activities of the International Mosaic Art Forum (Casablanca 2026) held from September 14 to 27, aiming to transform the historical facade of the Municipal Market into an artistic space that celebrates the memory and traditional identity of the place.

The forum witnessed a distinguished Jordanian presence represented by the participation of the mosaic artist Zaid Al-Awamila, who brought Jordanian expertise and the Jordanian school of this ancient art, alongside the participation of the mosaic artist Hind Hayari.

Ambassador Ghneimat emphasized the importance of Jordanian presence in international cultural forums, praising the artistic journey of Al-Awamila and his experience spanning more than three decades in the creation and restoration of mosaics.

Ghneimat said that the participation of Jordanian artists contributes to highlighting the cultural and artistic identity of the Kingdom and strengthening the bridges of cultural and human communication between peoples, noting that mosaics form an integral part of the Jordanian cultural heritage rooted throughout history.

For his part, the President of the Maaarif District Council, Abdel Sadiq Mershid, praised this collective artistic achievement that immortalizes the first centenary of the Maaarif Municipal Market in a beautiful manner that befits the region's heritage and embodies cultural diversity.

For her part, the project director and head of the organizing association, Fatima Benlaali, explained that the participation of Jordanian and international expertise was a qualitative addition to the forum, confirming that the mural represents a space for artistic interaction and dialogue between different cultures.

For his part, the artist Zaid Al-Awamila expressed his pride as a Jordanian mosaic artist in this international event, affirming that participating in the creation of the mural is an opportunity to introduce the Jordanian heritage and the national mosaic school, blending the civilization of Salt City and Jordanian heritage with the antiquity of Casablanca.
