Draw places the national team alongside UAE and Oman
The West Asian Football Federation (WAFF) announced the results of the draw for the Under-17 Boys Championship, which will be held in the city of Aqaba from September 26 to October 5.
The draw resulted in the distribution of the seven participating teams into two groups. The first group includes Yemen, Lebanon, Syria, and Palestine, while the second group features the host national team alongside the UAE and Oman.
All matches will be held at the Aqaba Stadium, with the tournament opening with a match between the Yemeni national team and Palestine on Saturday, September 26 at 5:00 PM. Lebanon will meet Syria the following day at 8:00 PM, and Jordan will play its first match against Oman on the same day at 6:00 PM.
The competitions continue on Monday, September 28, with Palestine facing Lebanon at 5:00 PM, followed by Syria against Yemen at 8:00 PM, while Tuesday will witness a match between the UAE and Oman at 6:00 PM.
Wednesday, September 30, will witness two matches between Yemen and Lebanon at 5:00 PM, and Syria and Palestine at 8:00 PM, before the first round concludes on Thursday, October 1, with a match between Jordan and the UAE at 6:00 PM.
The tournament system is applied in a single stage during the first round, where the teams of each group play against each other in a single-round robin system, and the first and second-place teams from each group qualify for the semi-finals.
In the semi-finals, the leader of the first group will meet the runner-up of the second group, while the leader of the second group will face the runner-up of the first group, with the two winners advancing to the final match scheduled for Monday, October 5.
The tournament carries a special character, as it constitutes an important station for the national teams in the region to prepare for upcoming commitments. Moreover, starting from the next edition, the WAFF U-17 Championship will be a qualifier for the AFC Asian Cup by granting the title holder a direct qualification ticket to the continental finals, which adds even more interest to it.
