The Patriarchate of Jerusalem of the Greek Orthodox Church has confirmed the continuation of the protection of its ecclesiastical properties in the Holy Land, including the Monastery of Hagla in the Jordan Valley. It said that its properties and endowments face continuous attempts at targeting.
It explained that the Monastery of Hagla was founded in 455 AD, and its late head, Archimandrite Christoforus, spent more than 55 years in the service of the Church. Following his departure, the Patriarchate initiated administrative and financial procedures to re-organize the monastery's affairs and stabilize its conditions.
The Patriarchate said that after the death of the late Archimandrite, some parties are seeking to fabricate rumors and spread them through social media platforms to pressure the Patriarchate to back down from reforming the financial and administrative affairs of the monastery.
It emphasized that the management of the monks' affairs and their transfers, as well as the administrative and financial regulations adopted in its institutions and monasteries, are the responsibility of the Patriarchate, and it will not accept any interference from any party. It confirmed that the monks who left the Monastery of Hagla did so voluntarily and at their own request.
The Patriarchate called on the community to support the reform efforts it is implementing, so that the Monastery of Hagla can continue its religious mission and service to the community in all its categories.
