The Egyptian Parliament will hold an "emergency session" on Sunday following President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi's announcement of Cairo's readiness to defend Saudi Arabia, which is being subjected to strikes by the Yemeni Houthis.
The state-owned Al-Ahram newspaper reported that "the House of Representatives, chaired by Counselor Hisham Badawi, will hold an emergency session tomorrow, Sunday, in response to the call of President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi to convene an emergency session of the House of Representatives."
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi affirmed Egypt's full support for the security and stability of the Gulf, stressing Cairo's readiness to implement any measure requested by Saudi Arabia to defend its security and sovereignty.
He also emphasized that his remarks come within the framework of defending the Kingdom, not with the aim of entering into a war or attacking any party, and he also sent a message to everyone calling for an end to the ongoing war, expressing his hope to extinguish the fire of infighting.
He called for an emergency session to grant the necessary authorization if requested.
Sisi's remarks came at the graduation ceremony of the first class of the Egyptian Military Academy.
