The opening session of the general deliberations of the United Nations General Assembly witnessed an exceptional political turn, embodied by the fiery and historic speech delivered by His Majesty King Abdullah II. His Majesty's ascent to the podium as the first speaker among world leaders became a real opportunity to formulate a truthful and stringent narrative in front of an international community that has been accustomed for many years to the policy of managing crises instead of solving them fundamentally. The royal speech was completely different from traditional diplomatic language, as it was characterized by strength, clarity, and confrontation. His Majesty opened the speech with a clever and innovative gesture about the decline in human attention span in the era of digital screens, wisely warning of the danger of turning human tragedies and critical issues into mere transient events competing for attention in a fast-paced virtual world, affirming that the future is shaped by what we choose to confront, not by what we choose to ignore and escape from.
The war on Gaza was at the heart and center of this royal speech, where His Majesty provided a decisive and shocking definition of rejecting the humanitarian atrocities committed there, affirming that the humanitarian disaster and massive destruction witnessed in the Gaza Strip represents a stain on the forehead of an international community that stood idly by or was complicit in its suspicious silence. His Majesty emphasized that targeting civilians, hospitals, and depriving innocent people of food, water, and medicine is a complete crime that requires immediate international action to stop the firing and end this heinous aggression, declaring that Jordan will never abandon its principles, nor its support for the steadfastness of its brothers, and provide absolute support to UNRWA to ensure relief for the afflicted sector.
