European gas prices recorded sharp rises on Wednesday, reaching levels not seen in more than three years, due to the recent escalation in the Middle East and alarmingly low inventories on the continent as winter approaches.

According to (AFP), the value of gas futures according to the Dutch "TTF" index, the benchmark in Europe, rose by 4.44 percent to reach 79.21 euros per megawatt-hour after recording 80.99 euros, its highest level since January 2023.
