The administrators of Real Madrid and Barcelona football clubs were summoned for a reconciliation session on November 25, as a preliminary step in a defamation lawsuit filed by the Catalan club against the president of the Royal Club, according to informed sources at Agence France-Presse on Monday.
The reconciliation session is being held before a court in Madrid, following a complaint filed by Barcelona on June 12 against Florentino Perez, president of Real, after his statements in May accusing the Catalan club of manipulating to obtain favorable refereeing decisions.
The president of Real was referring to the Negreira case, named after the former president of the Spanish Arbitration Committee accused of receiving bribes from Barcelona.
This reconciliation session is the step that precedes the potential defamation lawsuit against the president of the capital club.
Barcelona stated in June, "The purpose of this request is to force Mr. Perez to retract some statements, knowing that they are false, offensive, and tarnish the image and reputation of the club."
If the mediation fails, "Barcelona will file a complaint in this regard," it said.
