PSG president under investigation in France

Qatari Nasser Al-Khelaifi, president of Paris Saint-Germain, is under investigation in France on suspicion of conflict of interest, the public prosecutor's office in the French capital announced yesterday.

The public prosecutor's office, confirming the report published by the sports newspaper L'Équipe, explained that the preliminary investigation is linked to his dual management of Saint-Germain, the Champions League title holder for the past two seasons, and the beIN Media Group, and includes a meeting with the French Professional Football League to discuss television broadcasting rights in July 2024.

Al-Khelaifi, who has headed the European and league champion since Qatar Sports Investments acquired it in 2011, seeking to make it the best team in Europe, has faced several legal cases in recent years.

Al-Khelaifi has consistently denied any wrongdoing, and his lawyer confirmed to Agence France-Presse that his client "has always acted with independence, integrity, and objectivity."

The latest investigation into Al-Khelaifi began in April based on a report from the anti-corruption association "Anticor," and the proceedings were referred to the anti-corruption and financial police.

He was also charged with complicity in abuse of power regarding a shareholder vote in a company in February 2025, according to a source familiar with the case on Thursday.

Previous charges against Al-Khelaifi for alleged corruption regarding Qatar's bids to host the 2017 and 2019 World Athletics Championships were definitively dismissed in mid-February 2023 by the French Court of Cassation, which ruled that the French judicial system has no jurisdiction to prosecute him.
