Palestine.. After the Iran War

The smoke of battles, the noise of missiles, and the efforts for calm and escalation across the Middle East fronts, from the Strait of Hormuz to the Bab al-Mandab Strait, and from Tehran to southern Lebanon, do not obscure the central truth; everything happening is merely a repercussion on the margins of the cause.

In the speeches of leaders before the UN General Assembly, the central topic was not the course of the war and negotiations with Iran, but Palestine, Gaza, and the occupation. The overwhelming majority of delegations left the hall as soon as the war criminal Netanyahu took the podium. Before crowds in squares and at all events, a single slogan of two words has returned to be chanted to summarize the position clearly and decisively: "Free Palestine," chanted by the public in squares, just as it is chanted by heads of state, institutions, intellectuals, and celebrities of art and sport. The stance on the Israeli occupation has become a matter of public conscience, summarizing the sorting between right, justice, and humanity, and falsehood, injustice, and hypocrisy.

Since the fall of the white minority regime in South Africa, there has been no pending issue that touches the conscience of humanity and requires a stance like the Palestinian cause. If we reflect a little, the Arab-Israeli wars did nothing but shuffle the cards and camouflage the truth. States of underdevelopment and tyranny want to eliminate the unique oasis of democracy in the Middle East. The truth is that Israel was never threatened at any day. On the contrary, it yearned for every new war, with the West behind it with all its economic and military superiority, to showcase dazzling victories that cover up its original and ongoing crime of stealing another people's homeland, and even achieving new occupations outside Palestine, sidelining the issue of the occupation and the gnawing away of new Palestinian lands and persisting in their oppression and displacement.

The fact is that the same equation and the same shuffling of cards were planned after October 7 with Hamas, Iran, the Axis of Resistance, and the slogan of the "unity of fronts." The war and the slogan of the "right to self-defense" were invested in to unprecedented extents, as the racist and fascist far-right saw an unrepeatable opportunity to implement the final project of uprooting and extermination. Thus, the brutal destructive war on Gaza continued even after dealing crushing blows to Hezbollah and Iran and the exhaustion of Hamas's military capabilities, despite their modesty. It continued for three years to destroy 90% of everything existing above ground in Gaza, committing countless massacres, and turning an entire people into displaced persons in their own homeland, in addition to the increasing seizure of land and the abuse of the people of the West Bank. And as the missiles of Iran and Hezbollah fell silent, Israel returned to drag Trump into a war with Iran that has no benefit and no exit. But a fundamental shift in the world has occurred, which no new crisis or war can cover up or distract from.

Incidentally, His Majesty the King's speech before the UN General Assembly began exactly from this precise entry point. He cleverly borrowed from the problem of the age and the distraction practiced on us by today's communication technology to warn against distracting attention from the central issue, which is the existence of an occupation committing genocide against an unarmed people.

Today, shuffling cards and distracting attention is no longer possible. That is why the "Free Palestine" slogan appears strongly on the lips of every free person in the world. We confirm this when we see (as an example only) the American singing star Macklemore take the stage at a crowded stadium concert, wrap a keffiyeh around his neck, raise his fist, and chant: Free Palestine. The story behind this appearance says everything about the transformation we are witnessing today. The man, like many others, was affected by what happened in Gaza, so he decided to express his conscience. In a previous concert, he performed a song about the Palestinian child Hind Rajab and chanted for the freedom of Palestine. He received a warning not to do it again. When he refused, it was decided to exclude him as an opening act for the artist Ed Sheeran. He bet on the public and public opinion, announced his own concert tour in several capitals, and in an act of defiance, named his tour "Free Palestine," donating its proceeds to Gaza. The rest of the team stood in solidarity with him, left Ed Sheeran, and joined him. Just a week after the announcement, tickets for all concerts were sold out, and that was a victory that shattered the Zionist pressure lobbies and billionaires, led by billionaire Robert Kraft, the owner of the stadium who requested Macklemore's exclusion.

Israel no longer has wars to wage on anyone, except for continuing its dirty, open, and exposed war on the people inside Palestine, in Gaza, the West Bank, and the 1948 territories. But no one in the West wants to support a hideous occupation and genocide at the expense of the taxpayer. This has turned into a resounding scandal, and we heard a few days ago the British Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband conducting a review and offering a clear apology for his country's policy, addressing the public who went out in massive demonstrations against this policy, saying: "You were right."

Now there is a clear, favorable, common, and productive strategy for Arab countries that can be adhered to. Nothing more than keeping pace with and investing in the existing global shift: condemning the occupation state, shunning its leaders as war criminals, intensifying the boycott campaign, and imposing sanctions. But it is not reasonable for us to ask the world to do that while we do not!
