The Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature has implemented four specialized training programs at the Dana Biosphere Reserve, targeting members of local communities surrounding the reserve, as part of the activities of the "Dana Orchards" project funded by the European Union, and within the framework of the (RES-MAB) project outcomes.
The programs aimed to enhance the knowledge and practical skills of local community members and support their active participation in adopting agricultural and environmental practices related to the reserve's natural resources, contributing to improving their ability to adopt eco-friendly livelihoods and develop their local production.
The training workshops covered key themes including the management of modern water-saving irrigation systems and the technologies used to operate them, in addition to improving the quality of agricultural products and methods of food processing and marketing, alongside establishing sound agricultural practices and soil management to maintain its fertility, while the training focused on technical aspects related to the operation and maintenance of solar-powered pumping systems and mechanisms for troubleshooting and repairing them.
These training projects contribute to building the capacities of the region's residents and encouraging them to make optimal use of available resources, thereby supporting the economic and social stability of the communities surrounding the Dana Biosphere Reserve, while simultaneously ensuring the protection of the ecosystem and the unique biodiversity of the reserve in the long term.
