Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Yarub Judeh said that the government has put in place a plan to deal with any developments that may occur in the navigation through the Bab al-Mandab Strait, which includes a package of precautionary measures to ensure the continued flow of goods to the Kingdom.
Judeh added, during a meeting with businessmen on Monday, that among the precautionary measures being dealt with is the possibility of transporting containers by land, pointing to the existence of alternative routes that can be resorted to in case the Bab al-Mandab Strait is closed.
He confirmed that the situation so far is "reassuring" and that all vessels arriving in Jordan via Bab al-Mandab are still arriving normally.
In another context, Judeh said that Jordan will sign two preferential trade agreements with Rwanda and Uzbekistan by the end of this year, as part of efforts to find new markets for Jordanian products.
He added that the government is studying the establishment of a preferential trade agreement with other countries, following the recent visit to Moscow.
Judeh pointed to the existence of three major projects scheduled to be implemented next year in partnership with the private sector.
In the energy sector, he said that the tender for natural gas pipelines from the Risha field to various regions will be announced soon, noting that Jordan aims to reach 80% self-sufficiency in natural gas by 2028.
