Jordan participates in the opening of the Asian Para Games

The fifth edition of the Asian Para Games, hosted by the Japanese city of Nagoya, opened yesterday, Sunday, and will continue until October 24.

The Jordanian flag flew high during the opening ceremony, which was held at the Nagoya City Mizuho Park Stadium, amidst an enthusiastic atmosphere.

National Paralympic powerlifting team star Abdelkareem Khattab carried the Jordanian flag during the parade of participating delegations.

The ceremony conveyed a humanitarian and sporting message that celebrates diversity and difference, reflects the values of will, challenge, and determination, and highlights aspects of Japanese culture and heritage.

Jordan is participating in this edition alongside 44 Asian countries and territories, in competitions that include 18 Paralympic sports, during which athletes compete for medals in various games.

Jordan looks forward to achieving distinguished results and reaching the podiums through its participation in three sports: powerlifting, athletics, and table tennis.

Jordan has 24 medals in its record of previous participations in the Asian Para Games, consisting of 9 gold, 8 silver, and 7 bronze medals, since its first participation in the Guangzhou Games in 2010.

The President of the Jordan Paralympic Committee, Dr. Omar Al-Hindawi, who attended the opening ceremony, praised the efforts of the national team's male and female players, valuing the levels they provide that reflect the spirit of determination and resolve, and their keenness to represent Jordan in an honorable manner.

He emphasized that participating in this continental event is not limited to achieving results and medals, but also represents an important opportunity for young players to gain experience and engage with advanced levels, which contributes to developing their abilities and honing their talents.

He also stressed the importance of investing in these promising energies and providing them with the opportunity to compete and gain experience, to be a fundamental pillar in preparing a new generation of Paralympic athletes capable of continuing the path of Jordanian achievement in the future.
