Iraq lifts customs and security restrictions on food imports from Jordan

Iraq has retroactively lifted additional and security restrictions collected from customs duties as of October 7, and decided to postpone the collection of customs and tax duties imposed on imports of eggs, chicken, and live meat, according to two official Jordanian documents reviewed by the relevant authorities.

The Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply informed the President of the Jordan Chamber of Industry and the President of the Jordan Chamber of Commerce Management Committee, in a letter dated October 15, of the decision of the Iraqi Ministerial Council for Economy, issued in its session held on October 13, which stipulates the cancellation of additional and security restrictions collected from customs duties retroactively as of October 7.

The letter indicated that the Iraqi Prime Minister directed on October 8 to postpone the collection of customs and tax duties imposed on imported egg, chicken, and live meat products.

The Ministry added that it will provide the Jordan Chamber of Industry and the Jordan Chamber of Commerce with the Iraqi Cabinet's decision as soon as it is received.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates had informed the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply of the Iraqi decision, pursuant to a letter dated October 14, according to what was stated in the official correspondence.

The available documents did not include details regarding the expected financial impact of the decision or the Jordanian sectors that would benefit most from it.
