Injury sidelines Valverde from Uruguay matches

Real Madrid captain, Uruguayan Federico Valverde, is suffering from a left ankle sprain, the Royal Club announced yesterday, Tuesday, following the violent tackle he received from Atlético Madrid's South Korean player Kang-in Lee during the capital derby on Sunday, which ended in a 2-1 victory for the "Rojiblancos".

According to the Spanish press, the Uruguayan midfielder is expected to be sidelined for several weeks, meaning he will miss the upcoming training camp for his national team, which is preparing to play three friendly matches in Japan, South Korea, and India.

The capital club had described its captain's injury, following the loss to Atlético, as a "strong blow" to the ankle, pointing to the severity of the South Korean player's tackle, which Real Madrid's Portuguese coach José Mourinho considered worthy of a red card.

Since then, slow-motion replays of the tackle have been repeatedly shown on Spanish television channels, amid widespread controversy over the performance of the officiating crew and the decision made during the match.

The Technical Committee of Referees (CTA), which sometimes publishes recordings of conversations between the referee and the Video Assistant Referees (VAR) to clarify controversial decisions, did not include this incident among the clips it released regarding the weekend's matches.
