The Hebrew newspaper Haaretz said on Friday that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has brought Israel's standing in the United States to the 'lowest point', considering that the damage to its relations with its most important ally has reached an 'unprecedented level'.
This was stated in the newspaper's editorial, titled 'An Unprecedented Level', referring to the decline in relations with the United States.
The newspaper added that 'everyone who follows Israel's behavior and its relations with countries around the world, primarily the United States, has warned for years of an unprecedented crisis in Israel's strategic relations with its important ally'.
It emphasized that Netanyahu 'has brought Israel's standing in the United States to the lowest point'.
Haaretz pointed out that the damage to its relations with the United States has reached an 'unprecedented level'.
It considered that Netanyahu 'ignored numerous warnings directed at him regarding the damage he is causing to Israeli-American relations'.
It pointed out that the damage continued with 'his blatant interference in American politics in favor of Trump and the Republican Party', noting that the results of this appeared initially in the decline of Israel's standing among Democratic Party supporters.
However, the newspaper said that the decline is no longer limited to the Democrats, adding that 'over the past two years, Netanyahu's government has caused a sharp decline in Israel's standing within the Republican Party'.
It warned of the repercussions of this shift on relations between the two countries, saying that 'every Israeli needs to realize the extent of the deterioration of the image of the State of Israel in the eyes of the American public, and what this will mean for the future of relations between the two countries'.
In July of last year, increasing signs of differences in viewpoints between US President Donald Trump and Netanyahu came to light, including the cancellation of a visit Netanyahu had planned to the United States to meet the US President, after he made several attempts to arrange the visit without receiving a positive response.
A survey conducted by the US-based Pew Research Center in April of last year showed that 60 percent of Americans now hold a negative view of Israel, with 28 percent expressing an 'extremely negative' stance.
These results reflect an upward trend over the past four years, with the percentage of Americans viewing Israel negatively rising from 43 percent in March 2022 to 53 percent in April 2025, before continuing to rise later.
These changes are more evident among the younger generation, where the negative view of Israel is the prevailing stance among Americans aged 18 to 49, whether within the Democratic Party or the Republican Party.
The survey also showed that 59 percent of Americans do not trust, or trust to a limited extent, Netanyahu's ability to make the right decisions on international issues.
