Closed training camp for the taekwondo national team in preparation for the Asian Games

Yesterday, the national taekwondo team entered a closed training camp in preparation for participating in the 20th Asian Games, hosted by the Japanese city of Nagoya from the 19th of this month until the 4th of next month.

The camp constitutes the final stage in the national team's preparation program before heading to Japan, after the male and female players underwent multiple stages of preparation over the past period, which included participating in international and continental championships and holding training camps, as part of the coaching staff's plan to reach the tournament in the best possible technical and physical condition.

During the current camp, the technical director of the national team, Faris Al-Assaf, and coaches Zaid Abu Zaid and Yazan Al-Sadiq, are working to raise the readiness of the players, focusing on technical and tactical details, in addition to monitoring the physical condition of each player before entering the tournament competitions.

The national team is represented in the tournament by the players: Zaid Mustafa, Saleh Al-Sharabaty, Jaafar Al-Daoud, Mohammed Al-Adarbeh, Rama Abu Al-Rub, Fadia Kharfan, and Razan Al-Rawashdeh.

Taekwondo's participation in the tournament holds special importance, given its continuous presence in the games since the first Jordanian participation in the Seoul Games in 1986, as the sport has successfully cemented its presence among the most prominent sports at the continental level over the past years.

Taekwondo tops the list of Jordanian sports in terms of the number of medals in the history of participation in the Asian Games, after winning 27 medals, consisting of three golds, 13 silvers, and 11 bronzes, which puts the team before a new challenge to maintain this presence and enhance its tally in the upcoming edition.

The team's delegation is expected to leave for Japan on the 27th of this month, and preparations will continue there before the start of the taekwondo competitions, which will take place from October 1-3 at the Toyohashi Gymnasium.

Jordanian taekwondo seeks to continue its strong presence in the Asian Games and affirm its position as one of the sports that has constituted a major source of Jordanian medals in continental arenas over the past years.
