Charity associations in Aqaba Governorate are moving to establish day clubs for the elderly, in response to a circular issued by the Ministry of Social Development to voluntary organizations wishing to establish these clubs, with the aim of providing safe and suitable environments for this group, and enhancing social communication and integration, in light of the absence of specialized clubs for the elderly in the governorate.
The Ministry of Social Development told "Alrai" that the role of the Ministry and the Directorate is to circulate instructions and standards to charity associations and voluntary organizations wishing to establish day clubs for the elderly, and to ensure they meet the approved conditions and requirements before their establishment, in addition to supervising these clubs and monitoring their work after establishment, to ensure their compliance with the specified standards and the achievement of their desired goals.
It added that day clubs for the elderly are established by the interested parties according to the applicable regulations and instructions, including charity associations, noting that the Directorate has circulated to the associations in the governorate that have a desire to establish these clubs, to work on providing suitable places and completing the necessary requirements.
The Ministry explained that the idea of the clubs is based on creating a safe and suitable space that allows the elderly to spend their time in an appropriate social environment, in addition to providing care and attention and providing opportunities for communication and interaction, which contributes to alleviating the pressures of daily life and enhancing their social integration.
It indicated that a number of charity associations have submitted applications to establish day clubs for the elderly, but the required conditions applied to only two associations, while other associations are currently working to rectify their status and complete the necessary requirements.
It pointed out that the physical inspection committee visited the headquarters of the associations wishing to establish the clubs to assess the readiness of the premises and the extent of their compliance with the conditions and standards approved for establishing day clubs for the elderly.
The Ministry confirmed that the interested associations are currently working to rectify their status and complete the required requirements, while the Directorate is following up on the organizational and technical procedures in accordance with the approved conditions and standards, in preparation for completing the stages of establishing the clubs and operating them by the voluntary organizations.
It drew attention to the importance of these clubs in providing care and attention to the elderly, especially with the absence of clubs for this group in Aqaba Governorate, noting that providing a safe and suitable place for them can contribute to alleviating life pressures and creating a space for social communication and interaction.
The move towards establishing day clubs comes within the framework of expanding the scope of community initiatives aimed at the elderly, and creating spaces that take into account their needs and support their social presence.
