Eyes are turning today toward the waterways in the Straits of Hormuz and Bab al-Mandab, which are both considered important for international trade and the transport of oil and gas. The former is one where Iran seeks to impose its sovereignty and control, considering it more important than the nuclear file as a tool of pressure on the United States. The latter, Bab al-Mandab and the Gulf of Aden, threatens navigation in the Red Sea, which Iran seeks to control through its Houthi ally. Militarily, the American escalation emerges as a final solution to end the state of attrition led by Iran against the United States. Energy markets are rising, as the price of a barrel reached $104, which has reflected on the American buyer and its impact on the midterm elections. Hence, Trump is leaning toward a military escalation and a strong strike against Iran to declare victory and close the file before the elections; this is among the existing possibilities. However, Iran has managed to reach a "strike for a strike" deterrence despite the lack of equal opportunities, and Iran is seeking popular mobilization internally and training on carrying arms and defending the existing regime, as it has recorded more than 31 American military strikes to topple the regime that will not be of any use. It is true that the economic blockade is influential, but the Iranian people have been accustomed to this for five decades. In our belief, this war cannot be solved except through diplomatic negotiation, and the same applies to the war in Yemen; military force cannot end the conflict that has been going on for more than a decade. Therefore, neither conflict can be resolved by military force, and the solution lies in direct negotiation or mediation, and nothing else.
