Substitute Noni Madueke scored a late goal to lead Arsenal to a 1-0 victory over hosts Nottingham Forest on Sunday at the City Ground, as part of the seventh round of the English Premier League.
With this win, Arsenal reclaimed second place from Brighton, raising their tally to 18 points to continue chasing leaders Manchester City by 3 points, while Nottingham Forest remained at 5 points in 18th place, within the relegation zone.
The victory served as an important morale boost for Spanish manager Mikel Arteta's squad before traveling to Germany to face Bayern Munich next Wednesday at the Allianz Arena, as part of the third round of the Champions League league phase.
Arsenal did not perform at the expected level for most of the match, while Nottingham Forest relied on closing down spaces and resorting to counter-attacks, resulting in a limited number of scoring opportunities for both teams.
The "Gunners" waited until the 80th minute to open the scoring, when substitute Noni Madueke managed to score the only goal of the match with a shot from inside the penalty area that deflected off a Nottingham Forest player, changing direction and settling into the net.
Nottingham Forest almost equalized in the second minute of stoppage time after Brazilian Murillo Costa fired a shot from inside the penalty area that went over the crossbar, causing the hosts to miss a valuable chance to salvage a point from the match.
