Preparations for the 6th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games 'Riyadh 2026' have reached a peak of work and anticipation, with approximately 90 days remaining until the start of the competitions in the Saudi capital Riyadh from December 11 to 21, with the participation of more than 4,500 athletes representing 45 Asian National Olympic Committees, competing in 18 sports.
As preparations for the continental event enter advanced stages, the Asian continent's attention will turn in the coming days to the 20th Asian Games Nagoya 2026, which represents an important milestone on the road to Riyadh, given the close timing between the two events and the expected wide participation of Asian athletes in both tournaments.
It is expected that a large percentage of the athletes participating in 'Nagoya 2026' will participate again in the Saudi capital in December, making Nagoya an important competitive stop for Asian athletes and teams before heading to Riyadh and competing in the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games.
This intersection between the two tournaments is an extension of a busy Asian sports season, during which the journey of many Asian athletes will move from Nagoya to Riyadh, in a path that reflects the diversity of Asian sports and the broad base of participation, and gives audiences the opportunity to follow a selection of athletes at two successive continental stops during 2026.
While the national teams and Asian National Olympic Committees are preparing for the Nagoya competitions, the organizing committee of 'Riyadh 2026' continues its preparations to host the event, working on various operational and organizational aspects to ensure providing an integrated experience for athletes, delegations, audiences, and media.
Monira Al-Sudairi, CEO of the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games – Riyadh 2026, said: 'With 90 days remaining until the start of the tournament, we are entering an important stage of our preparations in Riyadh, working at a rapid pace to complete various organizational and operational aspects, ensuring providing an experience worthy of the athletes of the Asian continent and the Kingdom's status in hosting major sports events.'
She added: 'The Asian Games in Nagoya represent an important stop on the road to Riyadh, not only for the athletes we look forward to welcoming a large number of them again in December, but also for us as the organizing committee. Nagoya will be an important opportunity to closely observe the operational and organizational experience and benefit from it, and exchange experiences with the Asian sports system, while we continue our preparations to welcome Asia in the heart of Riyadh.'
Saudi Arabia continues its growing presence on the global sports map, by hosting and organizing many major continental and international sports championships and events in various games, as an extension of the rapid development and unprecedented support witnessed by the sports sector, which contributes to enhancing the Kingdom's status as a global sports destination, and achieving the goals of Saudi Vision 2030 aimed at building a sustainable sports sector, raising the level of sports participation, enhancing the quality of life, and developing the economic and social impact of sports.
