This week, HRH Princess Sarvath El Hassan sponsored the signing of an agreement to support the establishment of a specialized palliative care center, "Beit Al-Malath" (House of Refuge), the first specialized residential palliative care center in Jordan. The Association signed a cooperation agreement with the Taiwanese Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation to support the establishment of the center, in cooperation with a number of supporters and partners, including the Al-Alami family and Dar Al-Handasah.
Dr. Mahmoud Sarhan, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Association, pointed out that the project aims to provide a safe and specialized residential environment for patients suffering from advanced, life-threatening illnesses whose health, family, or financial conditions do not allow them to receive appropriate care at home, contributing to alleviating their pain and suffering, and giving their families the opportunity to stay by their side in an atmosphere of comfort and reassurance.
He indicated that the establishment of "Beit Al-Malath" comes as an extension of the Association's mission, which has been providing comprehensive and free palliative care services to patients and their families since 1993, including medical, nursing, psychological, and social care, while home care remains the preferred option whenever the conditions of patients and their families permit.
Since its establishment decades ago, the Association has achieved honorable results on the humanitarian and economic fronts, contributing to the treatment of thousands of medical cases and carrying out more than 10,000 home visits to patients where they reside over the past five years, which has contributed to achieving significant financial stability for them and their families, and prevented them from incurring financial obligations that do not match their financial capabilities.
Here, the importance of the "humanitarian economy" emerges, represented by the existence of specialized associations that care for patients who are unable to provide medical supplies, medicines, and necessary care, as this economy forms a "real and realistic shadow" of the conventional economic aspects.
Al-Malath Association receives financial and in-kind donations that have enabled it to provide advanced medical services to thousands of patients, which has contributed to easing the burdens on government hospitals and medical centers, saving them money, the efforts of their medical and nursing teams and others, the movement of ambulances, and other financial burdens borne by the state and families.
"Beit Al-Malath" will be a story of humanitarian, social, and economic giving, and the door is now open to everyone to make a real contribution to this noble humanitarian effort by providing financial and in-kind support to the Association's activities and work, and by contributing to the building of "Beit Al-Malath" to be a model medical endowment that serves patients in the spirit of humanity and dignity.
