The Jordan Radio and Television Corporation affirms that supporting national drama, the Jordanian artist, and the Jordanian producer constitutes a cultural and media priority, and a national responsibility that the Corporation works to translate into programs and production plans that contribute to developing the local drama industry, enhancing its sustainability, and providing real job opportunities for Jordanian artists, technicians, and creative cadres.
In light of the positions and criticisms recently raised regarding the Corporation's policy in purchasing Jordanian dramatic works, the Corporation affirms its keenness to clarify its position to public opinion, stemming from the community's right to know the facts, and out of its keenness to establish responsible professional dialogue, away from any ambiguity that might affect the Corporation's role or its efforts in supporting national production.
The Corporation stresses that the decision of its board of directors to raise the purchase prices of Jordanian dramatic works, and to adopt new technical and objective evaluation criteria, comes within the framework of supporting local products and elevating the quality of works presented to the Jordanian viewer. However, this orientation does not mean the Corporation's commitment to purchasing all works presented to it, or relinquishing its inherent right to evaluation, comparison, and selection, in accordance with its programmatic needs, the artistic and substantive level of the works, and the available financial resources.
The decision to purchase any dramatic work is an institutional responsibility that requires studying the elements of quality, content, artistic value, fair price, and the suitability of the work for the Jordanian viewer, to ensure achieving the best value for expenditure, and preserving public funds, the safeguarding and proper management of which constitutes a duty that accepts no compromise.
In this context, the Corporation clarifies that purchasing decisions are linked to its approved budget, financial and administrative obligations, and expenditure timings within the fiscal year, which makes it necessary to deal with available resources according to studied priorities that balance supporting national production with the financial and administrative sustainability requirements of institutional work.
Regarding the meeting that brought together a Jordanian producer and the Corporation's management, in the presence of the Syndicate of Jordanian Artists, the Corporation clarifies that the discussion included the producer's unwillingness to sell his recent dramatic works to television before purchasing his old works, and the submitted offer also included selling three dramatic works and presenting three other works as a gift.
The Corporation points out that the three works presented as a gift had previously been subjected to evaluation by specialized committees, which did not approve their broadcast for reasons related to technical aspects in some works, and to content and objective considerations in other works.
The Corporation affirms that presenting any work as a gift does not exempt it from approved evaluation procedures, does not automatically grant it broadcast eligibility, and does not impose any obligation on the Corporation to accept or broadcast it. The criterion in all cases is the extent to which the work meets technical, programmatic, and objective conditions, rather than the nature of the offer submitted regarding it.
The Corporation also stresses that every dramatic work is subject to independent evaluation, and that purchasing modern works cannot be linked to purchasing old works, or including works previously rejected by specialized committees within a single deal, which would impose choices on the Corporation that do not match its needs or professional standards. The final purchasing decision remains the right and responsibility of the Corporation, and is made according to clear foundations that achieve fairness among producers and preserve the independence of institutional decision-making.
The Corporation affirms that this stance does not target any Jordanian producer, nor does it detract from the standing of the local artist or the importance of private production companies, but rather reflects the Corporation's commitment to applying unified professional standards, providing fair opportunities for all producers, and building a partnership relationship based on transparency and mutual respect, without this partnership meaning relinquishing quality standards or accepting terms that do not align with programmatic policy and available financial resources.
In contrast, the Corporation renews its affirmation that supporting the Jordanian artist is not limited to purchasing ready-made works from private production companies, but includes direct production that provides actual job opportunities for artists, technicians, writers, directors, and other national creative cadres.
Within this framework, the Corporation is working on implementing television and radio dramatic works for the holy month of Ramadan, in parallel with the trend toward continuing production throughout the year, to enhance the continuity of artistic work, expand employment opportunities, and contribute to developing local expertise and establishing the presence of Jordanian drama.
The Jordan Radio and Television Corporation renews its affirmation that its doors are open to Jordanian producers, and that it is keen to purchase distinguished works that achieve true artistic value, meet technical and objective requirements, and whose prices are compatible with their artistic level and available financial resources. Supporting the local product does not mean buying everything presented, but rather building a fair and sustainable professional partnership that encourages creativity, respects standards, and achieves the public interest.
While affirming its continuation in performing its national and media role in supporting Jordanian drama, through direct production and purchasing distinguished works according to clear technical and financial foundations, the Corporation stresses at the same time its commitment to protecting public funds, and presenting content that aligns with the values, tastes, and needs of Jordanian society, and reflects the national identity and befits Jordan's standing.
Supporting Jordanian drama is a shared responsibility that is not achieved through demands alone, but rather through cooperation, trust, commitment to professional standards, and respect for each party's powers and responsibilities. The goal that the Corporation, producers, and artists meet upon is to build a Jordanian drama industry capable of continuity and development, providing job opportunities, and producing qualitative works befitting Jordan and its audience.
The Corporation will continue to play its role in serving national drama, open to partnership and cooperation, while adhering at the same time to the independence of its professional decisions and its right to choose what it deems appropriate for the Jordanian viewer and the public interest.
