Governor of the Central Bank of Jordan, Dr. Adel Sharkas, confirms that digital transformation and financial innovation represent a key pillar within the comprehensive economic modernization journey, and that Jordan is not only following technological changes in the region, but also seeks to be a maker of dialogue and a regional center for financial innovation.
Sharkas explains that regulation and innovation complement each other, as innovation does not need less regulation, but rather smarter regulation; successful regulation that allows it to grow with confidence and safety without affecting the stability of the financial system or the rights of consumers, which has contributed to a qualitative leap in the digital payments sector.
Sharkas announced record figures achieved by the digital payments sector in the Kingdom during 2025, where the number of electronic payment transactions exceeded 700 million transactions, with a total value exceeding 50 billion dinars, representing about 118% of the gross domestic product; indicating that these figures reflect a structural shift in the pattern of economic activity and the development of the financial infrastructure in the Kingdom.
He also confirmed that the Central Bank of Jordan has developed an integrated system that includes digital financial identity, electronic verification (e-KYC), open financial services (Open Finance), regulatory technology (RegTech), in addition to the regulation of virtual assets.
Sharkas also confirmed that the stability of the banking sector, monetary solidity, and the advanced infrastructure, along with the human capabilities and the strategic location of Jordan, constitute solid foundations that make the Kingdom a destination and attractive to regional and international investments and companies in the field of financial technology.
As for the (Sind) application, the figures it achieves have become highly appreciated; where the number of digital identities activated through the application exceeded 3.25 million identities, while the number of active users of the application daily during August and September was about 320,000 users daily, while the digitization rate in government services reached 87.5%. The government has announced its commitment to automating all government services that can be digitized; which number 2400 services covering all government sectors.
This transformation and development in electronic payment operations, the increase in electronic services through the (Sind) application, the growth in the number of digital identities activated through the application, and the increase in the number of users of the application daily, are all positive factors that directly and indirectly affect the Jordanian economy.
They also enhance the status of the banking and financial sector, facilitate the movement and work of citizens and companies, achieve the objectives of the economic modernization vision, and support the efforts of the Supreme Council for Future Technology; towards enhancing Jordan's status as an advanced technological country with a prosperous digital economy and society, and encouraging partnerships and adopting advanced technologies to improve the quality of government and sectoral services and raise its efficiency.. God Save Jordan.
