The youth centers affiliated with the Karak Governorate Youth Directorate are implementing initiatives to promote national identity, consolidate the Jordanian narrative, preserve historical and cultural heritage and national memory, and safeguard heritage, considering this a fundamental pillar for protecting cultural identity and ensuring its continuity across generations.
Within this framework, the Karak Youth and Women Center implemented an initiative entitled "A Cup of Coffee and a Life Story," on the occasion of the International Day of Older Persons, with the participation of 20 young men and women who are members of the center, aimed at enhancing intergenerational communication, benefiting from the experiences and trials of fathers and mothers, and introducing the importance of preserving heritage, customs, and traditions.
The initiative hosted Noufa Al-Jarajreh, one of the women of Karak who presents a distinguished model for the role of women in preserving heritage, customs, and traditions, working, producing, and building the family and society. The meeting, moderated by the center's head Iman Al-Taqatqa, covered the journey of a lifetime, the mothers' life paths and their experiences in life, and their role in maintaining the sustainability of the extended family, passing down popular heritage, values, customs, and traditions from one generation to another, alongside discussing experiences of freelance work and the role of women in supporting their families and society.
The initiative emphasized the importance of listening to the stories and experiences of the elderly and documenting them, as they are part of the social and heritage memory of society, and enhancing their status and role in passing on experiences and values to the younger generation.
In a related context, the Karak Youth and Women Center organized a dialogue session entitled "The Jordanian Narrative," under the slogan "Two Generations, One Impact," with the participation of 20 young men and women, moderated by Nizar Al-Majali, a teacher at the Karak Secondary School for Boys.
The session highlighted, in an interactive discussion with the participants, milestones of the Jordanian national narrative. It also addressed the importance of raising awareness of the national identity, introducing youth to the homeland's history and the stages of state establishment, and transferring heritage and values between generations to instill pride in the Jordanian civilizational heritage.
On another front, the Adr Youth and Women Center implemented an awareness-raising activity entitled "Data Protection" in cooperation with the Adr Basic School, with the participation of 17 female students. It touched upon the importance of personal data protection and digital footprint, raising awareness about the risks of sharing private information online, introducing methods for safe usage of digital platforms and social media, and enhancing awareness of the importance of maintaining privacy and digital security.
The Sarfa Youth and Women Center held an awareness-raising dialogue session on cancer, aimed at raising the level of health awareness among participants and introducing the types of cancer, associated risk factors, and ways to prevent them.
Dr. Maryam Shaqfa spoke about colorectal cancer, considering it one of the most prevalent cancers in Jordan, alongside introducing the most prominent risk factors that may increase the likelihood of contracting it. She also touched upon various types of cancers, and the relationship between diet and lifestyle habits in increasing or decreasing risk factors, emphasizing the necessity of adopting a healthy lifestyle, paying attention to proper nutrition, practicing physical activity, and conducting periodic examinations for early detection.
