UAE Presidential Advisor calls for reviving joint Gulf action in security and defense

The Diplomatic Advisor to the UAE President, Anwar Gargash, affirmed on Monday the necessity of reviving joint Gulf action, particularly in the fields of security and defense, stressing that targeting Saudi Arabia undermines the security of the UAE and all Gulf states.

Gargash said in a post on the "X" platform that there is a need to strengthen the collective security system, adding that the joint security and defense dimension has witnessed "a grave shortcoming that has encouraged others to overstep against us."

In developments regarding the attacks on Saudi Arabia, one person died and 12 others were injured in an attack that targeted King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh on Sunday, according to reports, following an attack that occurred on Saturday for which the Houthi group claimed responsibility.

The Saudi-led coalition in Yemen announced that an "unidentified projectile" targeted passenger terminal number four at the airport on Saturday, which led to the outbreak of a fire.

The Saudi General Authority of Civil Aviation stated that the attack resulted in the death of a person of Pakistani nationality and the injury of 11 others.

In other security developments, the coalition announced the interception of a cruise missile near the airport, and also reported the interception and destruction of a drone in the Eastern Province, and the interception of a ballistic missile launched towards Khamis Mushait.

The Saudi Civil Defense said it issued an early warning of a potential danger in Abha, in the south of the Kingdom, early Monday, before announcing that the danger to the city had passed.

Footage broadcast by official Saudi television showed dozens of pilgrims lining up at one of the airport gates in preparation for travel to Makkah Al-Mukarramah and Madinah Al-Munawwarah, before a bright orange flash caused travelers to flee in a state of panic, amidst scenes where parts of the ceiling appeared to have collapsed.

The airport remains closed since Saturday's attack, while an international energy conference, which had been scheduled for a long time, was held in Riyadh despite the airport's closure.
