Reuters: Trump's popularity at its lowest level as congressional elections approach

A Reuters/Ipsos poll, the results of which were published on Monday, showed that the popularity of US President Donald Trump has fallen to its lowest level ever, amid Americans' concerns over rising gasoline prices and their apparent readiness to punish the Republican Party in the congressional elections on November 3.

The four-day poll indicated that about 31 percent of Americans approve of Trump's performance in office, down one percentage point from the previous two weeks, which is the lowest level during his two terms in office.

When poll participants were asked which party they would vote for if the congressional elections were held today, about 47 percent chose the Democratic Party, compared to 35 percent who chose the Republican Party.

The Democrats' 12-percentage-point lead is the largest during the current election cycle, and it may boost their hopes of wresting control of the House of Representatives and the Senate.

As for the Republicans, losing control of either chamber could complicate Trump's agenda in the final two years of his term.

The poll was conducted online and included 1,679 American adults, including 1,279 registered voters. The margin of error for the results was two percentage points for all participants, and three percentage points for registered voters.
