“Newsroom CONNECT” brings together young journalists in Jordan around constructive journalism

The “Newsroom CONNECT” initiative brought together 32 participants in Jordan over two days of training and collaboration as part of Media Week 2026, with the aim of developing journalistic skills, promoting concepts of constructive journalism and peace journalism, and exchanging experiences and ideas among young journalists.

The “Darbzeen for Human Development” foundation hosted the initiative’s activities, which included training sessions, panel discussions, and creative workshops with the participation of media specialists, covering constructive journalistic storytelling techniques and the importance of presenting media stories that provide space for dialogue and contribute to enhancing societal understanding.

Media coordinator Sarah Maabara opened the program with a session on constructive journalism and the art of storytelling, while the Arabic-language spokesperson for the European Union, Daniel Coleman, gave a presentation on EU projects and the opportunities available in this field.

The events featured an open discussion session that allowed participants to exchange viewpoints and discuss their experiences, in addition to a workshop on Arabic calligraphy focused on the theme of peace, and a training session on fact-checking in cooperation with ARIJ, a media network specializing in investigative journalism.

Participants also worked on producing their own journalistic materials, exchanging ideas, and providing support to one another, in an experience aimed at fostering teamwork and building professional ties among young journalists.

The initiative comes as part of the “EU MedBridge” project, supported by the European Union, within the framework of efforts to enhance media communication and develop journalistic skills in the region.

The initiative had highlighted, as part of a regional series, the experiences of newsrooms in Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, and Libya, with the next phase set to include Morocco, Palestine, Qatar, Syria, Tunisia, and Yemen, according to the initiative’s published announcement.
