Khraissat: Agricultural Sector Achieves Highest Economic Growth Rate in Q2 2026

Agriculture Minister Dr. Saib Khraissat confirmed that the figures released by the Department of Statistics for the second quarter of 2026 reflect the pivotal role played by the agricultural sector in supporting the national economy and boosting growth rates.

Khraissat said that the agricultural sector achieved the highest growth rate among various economic activities, with a 7.8 percent increase in constant prices compared to the same period in 2025, and the agriculture sector's contribution to the GDP was 4.5 percent.

He added that this outstanding performance confirms the success of government policies and programs implemented by the ministry in partnership with the private sector and farmers, which aimed to increase productivity, improve the efficiency of natural resource use, and expand export markets for Jordanian agricultural products.

He pointed out that official data showed the national economy grew by 3.0 percent during the second quarter of 2026 compared to 2.8 percent for the same period last year, with the agriculture sector topping the list of economic sectors in terms of growth rate.

He noted that the agricultural sector's role was not only to achieve the highest growth rate but also contributed directly to the economic growth achieved, with its contribution to the total growth being 0.34 percentage points out of 3.0 percent, ranking second after the manufacturing sector, reflecting the significant economic impact of agriculture on the GDP.

He explained that these positive indicators resulted from the implementation of the economic modernization vision and the executive program 2026-2029, as well as the policies implemented by the ministry to support the agriculture sector and farmers, through the agricultural calendar and subsidized agricultural financing, to encourage farmers to use modern agricultural techniques, stimulate agricultural industries based on local inputs, and promote agricultural exports through air and sea transport.

Khraissat confirmed that the ministry is continuing to implement its strategic plans aimed at enhancing national food security and increasing the competitiveness of Jordanian agricultural products in local and foreign markets, which will positively reflect on farmers' income, provide new job opportunities, and contribute to achieving sustainable economic development.

He stressed that the advanced results achieved by the agricultural sector confirm that it is one of the main drivers of economic growth in the Kingdom in light of the geopolitical circumstances and food security challenges that the region has witnessed over the past period, and pointed out that investment in agriculture represents direct investment in food security, economic and social development, and reflects the resilience of the agricultural sector and its ability to continue production, expansion, and turning challenges into economic opportunities, praising the efforts of Jordanian farmers who were the main partner in achieving these national achievements.
